Religious Musicians Pick Top Songs for Pentecost

The Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, devoted to promoting worship renewal in Christian faith communities, published a resource page featuring the top Pentecost hymn choices of six pastors and church musicians. Contributors include: Alison Adam, a member of the Iona Community and co-author of a book of global songs for children; John Ferguson, a composer and professor of organ and church music who also leads a church music ministry; Rev. Nicole Ashwood, a mission secretary for the Caribbean and North America Council for Mission who plans worship for World Council of Churches and other international, national and regional events; Gregg DeMey, associate pastor and director of worship at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church in Elmhurst, Ill.; Elizabeth Vander Haagen, co-pastor at Boston Square Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, and co-author of a forthcoming family prayer book; and Carlos Colon, coordinator of worship initiatives at Baylor University, who leads chapel worship and organizes Ash Wednesday and Station of the Cross services, along with other worship services. Representing the United Reformed Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, the Christian Reformed Church in North America, and the Baptist Church, these selections show a diverse theological and ecclesiological perspective and provide new resources for worship leaders who want innovative ways to refresh Pentecost worship.
