God and Games: A Guide to Sports and Religion for writers

From ancient times, religion and sports have been linked in a variety of ways. Since the mid-19th century, organized sports have developed alongside the growth of evangelical Protestantism. However, the parallels have not always been benign; the recent Penn State sex abuse scandal put many in mind of the clergy sex abuse scandals of the last decade. To provide news reporters and writers access to reliable historical, contextual, scholarly and contemporary source material on the interconnections of religion and sports, the Religion Newswriters Association developed an extensive list of recent articles, scholars and noteworthy authors, archived on RNA’s sister site, ReligionLink.
