2019 BAA Trailblazer of the Year named by Union Presbyterian Seminary

The Black Alumni Association (BAA) of Union Presbyterian Seminary is pleased to announce and to recognize the Rev. Dr. Harry Eugene Simmons (M.A. ’84) as the 2019 BAA Trailblazer of the Year. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Pastoral Care at Samuel De Witt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University (STVU) in Richmond. Since 1991, Simmons is employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs Hunter Holmes McGuire Medical Center as Staff Chaplain.

2019 Lilly Endowment National Clergy Renewal Program Applications Due April 11, 2019

Details and application materials for the 2019 programs are now available.
 
In the 2019 Lilly Endowment National Clergy Renewal Program and the 2019 Lilly Endowment Clergy Renewal Program for Indiana Congregations, eligible congregations will be able to apply for grants of up to $50,000 each to support a renewal program for their pastor. Up to $15,000 of the grant may be used for congregational expenses associated with the renewal program. Activities funded by a grant in the 2019 programs may begin anytime in 2020.

The Center for Social Justice and Reconciliation of Union Presbyterian Seminary's inaugural lecture Monday, October 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC. The center is a new initiative of the seminary to help our students understand the prophetic dimensions of pastoral ministry, to help the Charlotte community understand the theological imperative for the faith community to engage in efforts to promote social justice and to invite the activist community into the seminary as co-learners.

Rebecca L Davis Named APCE Educator of the Year

Union Presbyterian Seminary has appointed the Rev. Dr. Rebecca L. Davis as associate professor of Christian education, with tenure, at the Charlotte campus; and Dr. James E. Taneti as assistant professor of world Christianity at the Richmond campus. Taneti’s primary role will be as director of the Syngman Rhee Global Mission Center for Christian Education.
