Strategic planning keeps congregations focused on mission

Strategic planning is “a structured conversation about what a group of people believe God calls them to be or to do," write Gil Rendle and Alice Mann in their book, Holy Conversations. The Indianapolis Center for Congregations, an organization that helps area churches address the challenges they face, offers a free, downloadable PDF that can help church leaders implement strategic planning by identifying priorities for their congregations based on mission and taking the steps necessary to implement those priorities into the life of the congregation. Advice on how to find, interview, and hire a consultant is also offered, along with a list of strategic planning resources. The information can help lead congregations to understand that strategic planning is an ongoing process and one that's vital to the future and mission of the church.
