Researching Seminaries: Information for Students and Educators

The Center for the Study of Theological Education, established in 1991 at Auburn Seminary, provides information and perspectives on theological education in North America by conducting surveys to track trends over time. Auburn research has resulted in a series of reports that address the following:

• seminary leadership

• students and graduates

• faculty

• finance and student debt

• church, society and theological education

The Association of Theological Schools is a membership organization of more than 250 graduate schools that conduct post-baccalaureate professional and academic theology degree programs. Annual profiles of member schools provide details about the character and composition of theological schools and the trajectory of theological education in Canada and the United States.

Resources for American Christianity archives selected articles, interviews, reports and analyses of Lilly Foundation-supported research on American Christianity. The site provides introductions to research projects, abstracts of articles, links to books and transcripts of interviews with scholars and directors of research, and its Theological Education section includes information for students, faculty and administrators.

The Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion provides a range of resources to encourage and improve the teaching of religion through its programs and the journal, Teaching Theology and Religion, and through its extensive catalog of resources for religious educators. The center also provides a selective list of online religious education material to encourage educators to incorporate electronic resources into their teaching. The list includes links to syllabi, electronic texts, electronic journals, websites, bibliographies, liturgies, reference resources, and software.

Insights Into Religion also offers articles and resources in our Research on Seminaries and Governance sections.
